Within my body of work I have developed several different motifs or series or collections. One such is a newer series that I call Abstracted Graffiti. In hieroglyphic art, and also Medieval European art, registers (designated columns or rows) are used to section out passages of writing or images. I have incorporated registers of serpentine lines of varied hue, scale, character, and medium to create works that are both expressive and evocative. The marks suggest writing, but they also can reference the human body or perhaps aerial photographs of meandering rivers. Still, the abstractions, by not being specific, allow the viewer to interpret the arrangements in a myriad of ways while not being distracted from the aesthetic considerations.
